Job summary

Colchester Institute is seeking a dedicated Media Lecturer to inspire students across Level 1-3. You will deliver engaging teaching, create learning materials, and support learners on their path to further study, work, or the wider media industry.

You will collaborate with colleagues to maintain a positive learning environment, monitor progress, and lead on curriculum development, including Technology Enhanced Learning and innovative delivery methods.

Qualifications

• Education to degree level and/or above in Media, or equivalent.
• GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
• Level 5 Teaching Qualification or studying to complete within 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Teach across Level 1-3 Media curriculum with practical and theory sessions.
• Monitor standards against awarding guidelines and raise achievement.
• Lead on curriculum development and ensure quality assurance.
• Develop curricula to include Technology Enhanced Learning and innovative delivery.
• Comprehensive teaching duties including lesson planning, marking and feedback.

We are seeking a Media Lecturer to join our team. In this role you will play a key role in inspiring and supporting the next generation of media professionals. You will deliver engaging, high-quality teaching, develop relevant and creative learning materials, and provide guidance and support to students throughout their learning journey.

Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will contribute to an inclusive and positive learning environment, ensuring students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to progress into further study, employment or the wider media industry.

22.2 Hours per week, 52 weeks per year

About the role:

• To undertake a teaching role across a range of Level 1-3 Media curriculum, delivering practical and theory sessions appropriate to the needs of all learners and the different courses.
• To monitor standards of students’ work against awarding organisation guidelines and to raise achievement levels.
• Working with area leadership teams to ensure management of quality assurance and provision. Ensuring appropriate requirements are met for external verification.
• Lead on modelling best practise through the development of subject curricula to include Technology Enhanced Learning and innovative delivery methods.

• Comprehensive teaching responsibilities (lesson planning, assessing, preparation, delivery, marking).
• Designing, developing, and reviewing curriculum materials in line with programme specifications and quality assurance frameworks.
• Delivering engaging and innovative teaching using a variety of pedagogical approaches to meet diverse learner needs.

Essential Experience:

• Experience of undertaking a pastoral role and effectively using individual learning planning to raise achievement
• Experience of delivering Media related subjects reflecting recent changes in industry.
• Teaching or delivering training experience.
• Experience of working with young people.Proven experience of planning, teaching and assessment.
• Ability to teach a good range of the following subject areas:
• Film and TV
• Content Creation
• Print Media
• AI
• Games

Essential Qualifications:

• Education to degree level and/or above in Media, or equivalent.
• Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics GCSE 4+ or C and above / CSE Level 1 / O-Level C or above / Level 2 Adult Numeracy or Literacy or equivalent.
• Level 5 Teaching Qualification/ completing within 3 years of employment or 3 years of the first available course
