Overview

FILLING SEVERAL LIMITED-TERM WINTER MAINTENANCE POSITIONS THAT MAY LAST FROM OCTOBER TO APRIL, BUT WITH NO GUARANTEE. Position(s) will work full-time hours during the limited-term assignment.

This position performs maintenance of state trunklines within the right-of-way for Region Maintenance Crew in the Grand Region and operates various pieces of equipment used in the maintenance and repair of roadways, bridges, forestry, signage, and winter maintenance operations. The position is required to participate in the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Transportation Maintenance Worker (TMW) work element system and travel with a crew in the assigned geographic area. Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more (e.g. lift bed truck, hydraulic crane, snowplow, etc.) during maintenance activities.

Responsibilities
  • Winter months are spent performing winter maintenance duties, which may be region-wide while on temporary winter assignment to Maintenance Garages.
  • Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more as part of maintenance activities.
  • Participate in the MDOT Transportation Maintenance Worker (TMW) work element system and travel with a crew in the assigned geographic area.
  • Perform maintenance of state trunklines within the right-of-way for the Region Maintenance Crew in the Grand Region.
  • Operate various pieces of equipment used in the maintenance and repair of roadways, bridges, forestry, signs, and winter maintenance operations.
Qualifications
  • Education: Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
  • Experience: Transportation Maintenance Worker 6 — No specific type or amount of experience required.
  • Transportation Maintenance Worker 7 — One year of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 6 or Laborer E6 with experience in roadway, roadside, bridge, or sign maintenance, or pavement marking.
  • Transportation Maintenance Worker E8 — Two years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 7; or one year of skilled trades experience at the E9 level.
  • Must possess a CDL at the time of hire.
  • Transportation Maintenance Worker 6, 7, E8 — The MDOT Statewide Work Element Coordinator must approve satisfactory completion of the MDOT TMW Work Element training and certification program.
