Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac is launching the call for applications for its Sound Art Residency programme.

The Sound Art Residency is open exclusively to artists who come from one of the four continents represented in the collections of the Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac: Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. There is no age limit to apply. The jury will give precedence to pieces conceived in connection with the museum’s collections, interests and theme.

A project can be presented by several artists or by a collective. In this case, the grant amount must be shared between those presenting the project together.

Timeline:

  • September 2026: Research and creation at the museum in Paris and Le Fresnoy in Tourcoing
  • October 2026 – February 2027: Creation, production, securing rights, etc.
  • 22 February – 7 March 2027: Post‑production at Le Fresnoy
  • 8–10 March 2027: Installation of the work at the musée du quai Branly –Jacques Chirac
  • Mid‑March 2027: End of the residency and public presentation of the piece

The fixed amount of funding granted to the winner is 8,000 EUR excluding tax. This covers the artist’s copyright fees, the integration of the work into the museum’s collections, and the delivery of the final work (digital file or any other format). In addition to this grant, the production budget for the winning work will be covered by the museum, specifically:

  • Accommodation, meals, and travel expenses (national and international) for the artist for the production sessions at the museum (Paris) and at Le Fresnoy (Tourcoing).
  • Production‑related expenses directly linked to the project, within a maximum budget set by the museum.
  • Equipment costs strictly related to the technical setup for the work’s presentation (purchase, rental, installation, maintenance).
  • Any rights for the use of copyrighted sources, whether or not from the museum’s audiovisual and sound archive, within a maximum amount evaluated based on the project’s technical specifications.
