What we're looking for

As a Marine Surveyor with Lloyd's Register, you will join our experienced team in France, supporting clients across the maritime industry. You will apply your technical expertise to carry out inspections and surveys on vessels and at client sites, ensuring compliance with relevant rules, regulations, and company standards. This is a client-facing role that requires a balance of strong technical capability, professional integrity, and effective communication. You will work under the guidance of your line manager, taking ownership of assigned inspections and reporting on progress and findings.

The role
  • Conduct inspections and surveys at client premises and on board vessels in accordance with Lloyd's Register procedures and management instructions.
  • Produce and deliver inspection reports to agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant classification rules, statutory regulations (including SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC), and internal requirements.
  • Maintain necessary authorisations and certifications to perform assigned duties.
  • Undertake training courses as required by the Company to maintain and enhance technical competence.
  • Report regularly to your line manager or designated representative, providing updates on assigned activities and client interactions.
  • Support service delivery improvements by sharing feedback and technical insights.
  • Promote a proactive commitment to health, safety, and quality in all activities.
What you bring
  • A degree (or equivalent) in engineering, naval architecture, or a related technical field, or qualifications from a marine/nautical institution with relevant sea‑going experience as a certificated ship's officer.
  • At least five years of professional experience in the marine industry; experience with a classification society or maritime administration is an advantage.
  • Solid knowledge of classification rules and international maritime conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC, etc.).
  • Relevant sea‑going experience as a certificated ship's engineering or deck officer (desirable).
  • Strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to provide sound technical advice and build trusted client relationships.
  • Fluency in English and French (both written and spoken).
  • A proactive, professional, and collaborative approach to work, with a strong focus on safety and quality.
