Senior Platform Engineer

Are you ready to take on meaningful platform engineering challenges and contribute to one of Finland’s largest and most advanced data platforms?

Veikkaus is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join their team working with a modern platform that brings together gaming event data, customer information from one of the largest customer bases in Finland, and online store activity. What sets this role apart is the opportunity to work with one of the most extensive and diverse data sets in the country—a rare chance in the Finnish market.

In this role you will also help build an entirely new data platform to support Veikkaus’ international expansion. This means a unique opportunity to shape something from the ground up and make a lasting impact.

You’ll join a dedicated platform team developing and maintaining Veikkaus’ data platform infrastructure. The work covers centralized data collection, processing, and distribution, as well as the tools that enable data engineers in their daily work. Your role is hands-on: designing, building, and maintaining platform architecture to keep it scalable, reliable, and efficient. You’ll manage core infrastructure and cloud services, while supporting development projects across the organization—contributing directly to the foundation that enables data-driven solutions and advanced analytics.

Veikkaus’ current tech stack includes GCP native services such as BigQuery, Pub/Sub and Cloud Functions, as well as Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi, and Pentaho. We value experience in real-time data processing and cloud environments, but we do not expect you to master everything in advance. What matters most is a strong technical foundation, a genuine interest in platform development, and the ability to learn quickly. Experience with DevOps is also beneficial, as the team has recently transitioned into a cloud-based operating model.

Your skills and experience

• Developing technical solutions (such as platforms, applications, and tools) is your passion.
• Experience with data streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka and Apache NiFi.
• Cloud & Kubernetes management, including Docker, Kubernetes operators, Helm charts, and service meshes
• GCP services such as Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Tasks
• Infrastructure management & automation with Terraform and Terragrunt (IaC)
• Networking components such as VPCs, API Gateways, and Load Balancers
• CI/CD pipeline development with GitLab
• Python and Bash scripting for automation and tooling
• Monitoring & logging with Prometheus and Grafana
• You have the ability to understand the needs of different stakeholders and find suitable solutions for them.
• You are a team player and communicate in English and possibly also in Finnish with various stakeholders.
