The University of Helsinki invites applications for a fixed-term University Researcher in Intellectual History within MePhiS’s History of Ethics and Law of Responding to Suffering, hosted by the Faculty of Theology at the City Centre Campus. The position is two years, starting January 2027 or as agreed.

Qualifications

• PhD in humanities or social sciences.
• Senior researcher with background in intellectual history (medieval or early modern).
• Postdoctoral experience of several years is typical for the role.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to independent research at high international level.
• Publish scholarly work in line with MePhiS objectives.
• Collaborate across the Centre of Excellence and with partner faculties.
• Contribute to teaching and to administrative duties (approx. 5–10% of time).
