Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager in Finland to lead the Sleep & Wellbeing squads, translating biometric data into actionable insights. You will coach engineers, align roadmaps with product and data science, and drive architectural decisions across hardware-software boundaries.

Based in Helsinki, Oulu, or Tampere with hybrid work, you will scale teams, foster growth, and own delivery of high-impact features that define our consumer health platform.

Qualifications

For day-to-day feature work, our engineers are organized into smaller cross-functional feature teams, each team owning a distinct domain. Our teams have a great deal of autonomy and are responsible for the development and architecture of their features. Teams take full ownership of their code and handle everything from concepting, design and implementation to release, maintenance and bug fixes.

About the Role

This is an opportunity to lead the engineering teams at the very core of the company's mission. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager in Finland to support and scale our Sleep & Wellbeing teams. These teams are the engine of the the company experience, responsible for transforming complex biometric data into the actionable, personalized insights our members rely on every day.

  • The Sleep Squad builds the experiences and capabilities behind how the company measures, understands, and improves sleep. The team owns the company’s most foundational sleep features and works across product, design, science, and engineering to turn complex biometric signals into clear, actionable experiences for members.
  • The Wellbeing Squad builds member-facing experiences that help people understand and manage stress, recovery, and resilience. The team owns features such as Daytime Stress, Resilience, Cumulative Stress, Stress Hub, and Symptom Radar, translating the company’s science and biometric signals into practical, trustworthy guidance members can use every day.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be a multiplier for your team's impact. You will take pride in coaching talented engineers, fostering their careers, and creating an environment where they can do their best work. You will guide your team to deliver against an ambitious roadmap, owning the features that define our product and solidify the company as a leader in personal health.

This is a chance to solve deeply technical challenges at the intersection of hardware, software, and human physiology, backed by a beloved consumer product and one of the world's richest health datasets.

Location

This is a hybrid role based in Helsinki, Oulu or Tampere, Finland. We value in-person collaboration a few days a week.

What you will do
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of engineers, fostering their technical skills and professional development.
  • Drive the technical vision and execution for critical, cross-functional projects in collaboration with Product, Design, Data Science, and other global teams.
  • Own the planning, scoping, and delivery of your team's engineering efforts, ensuring we build robust, scalable, and high-quality solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance. While you won't be coding daily, your technical depth will be crucial in guiding architectural decisions, evaluating trade-offs, and unblocking your team.
  • Champion engineering excellence, cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, and refine our development processes.
  • Partner with recruiting to act as the hiring manager, attracting and retaining top engineering talent for your team.
  • Translate complex scientific concepts and product requirements into clear technical roadmaps and deliverables.
We would love to have you on our team if you have
  • A strong technical foundation with a minimum of 6+ years in software engineering and 3+ years in a people management role.
  • A technical degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience shipping and maintaining consumer-facing mobile applications or their backend services at scale.
  • A deep understanding of modern agile development methodologies and a capability to apply those in the context of agentic workflows. Solid track record of improving team processes.
  • Experience hiring and building high-performing, inclusive engineering teams.
  • Strong communication, delegation, and project management skills, with the ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from inception to launch.
  • Excellent people leadership skills. You champion your team, celebrate successes, and are adept at providing direct, constructive feedback to foster growth.
  • A deep-seated belief in fostering a sustainable, healthy work-life balance for yourself and your team.
  • A passion for leveraging data and technology to solve complex problems, thriving in an environment with high impact and high ambiguity.
Bonus points if you have
  • Experience working asynchronously in a distributed team environment across different time zones and cultures.
  • Experience building software in close collaboration with data scientists or researchers, particularly integrating machine learning models.
  • Technical familiarity with digital signal processing (DSP), scientific computing, or algorithm development.
  • Prior experience delivering software products in the health, wellness, fitness, or hardware domains.
