Elisa is seeking a (Senior) Research Scientist to join our mobile network technologies and services team in Helsinki, with flexibility for travel within the region. This three-year fixed-term position blends cutting-edge 5G and 6G research with early-stage telco-edge-cloud service innovation.

You will investigate distributed network, cloud, and edge technologies, collaborating with Elisa teams, universities, technology partners, and EU projects.

Qualificações

• PhD or doctorate-level expertise in telecommunications or related areas.
• Strong understanding of 5G/6G architectures including edge computing and cloud-native functions.
• Experience with cloud-native deployment, DevOps/Kubernetes, automation and orchestration.
• Research background with analytical methods, simulations, lab testing or network measurements.
• Ability to translate service requirements into network, cloud and edge platform needs.
• Experience in EU research projects and international consortia.
• Excellent communication skills and fluent English.

We are looking for a (Senior) Research Scientist to join our mobile network technologies and services team.

This is a three-year fixed-term position.

This role combines cutting-edge 5G and 6G research with early-stage telco-edge-cloud service innovation. You will investigate distributed network, cloud, and edge technologies that enable future digital services, particularly XR, immersive, and real-time applications. Working within the UNIFY Horizon Europe project, you will collaborate closely with Elisa teams, universities, technology partners, and other EU research projects. In addition, you will contribute to service innovation by defining requirements, evaluating emerging technologies, validating concepts, and assessing their technical feasibility and business potential.

We are looking for a candidate who combines a strong technical R&D background with an interest in early-stage service innovation and applied research. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of mobile networks, emerging 5G and 6G technologies, and edge computing architectures.The position is based in Helsinki, Tampere, Oulu or Tallinn, with some international travel expected.

In this role, you will

• Conduct independent and collaborative 5G/6G research in distributed telco-edge-cloud services
• Participate in and co-manage EU research activities with Elisa business units, partners and universities
• Investigate technologies supporting federated telco-edge-cloud service platforms, including telco APIs, service exposure, orchestration, automation and distributed deployment
• Support academic research, publications and possible IPR
• Provide system-level architecture insight for new service types requiring low latency, scalability, reliability and dynamic resource control
• Contribute to validation and demonstration activities

To succeed in this role, you should have

• PhD or doctorate-level expertise in telecommunications or related areas
• Good understanding of 5G/6G system architecture, including radio access, core network, edge computing, service exposure and cloud-native network functions
• Experience or strong interest in cloud-native deployment, DevOps/Kubernetes, automation, orchestration and distributed service platforms
• Research experience with analytical methods, simulations, lab testing and/or network measurements
• Ability to translate demanding service requirements, such as low latency, reliability, scalability, mobility and dynamic resource needs, into network, cloud and edge platform requirements
• Ability to validate the potential of new service concepts and analyze their business impact
• Experience in EU research projects and working in international consortia
• Strong analytical mindset, clear communication skills and fluency in English are required
