Job description

At IQM, we build world-leading quantum computers for the well-being of humankind. We design systems to tackle computational challenges beyond the practical limits of classical machines. Our work sits at the edge of science and engineering. It's complex, demanding, and deeply collaborative. We turn deep research into reliable, full-stack systems that drive discoveries in fields like medicine, energy, and technology, reshaping how the world computes.

Join the team that gives quantum a heartbeat.

The work

he Quantum System Implementation team is where new quantum computer hardware moves from the lab toward production.

We’re looking for an engineer with solid RF skills who loves hands-on lab work. You’ll assemble and test cryogenic and room-temperature RF setups, measure how they perform, and find out what works and why. When something is unknown, you’ll solve it together with our scientists. When something works, you’ll document it so our production teams can build it again.

You’ll join a growing team of engineers and technicians in Espoo. You’ll work closely with R&D scientists, Production, and Delivery and Commissioning. Your work helps us deliver reliable systems and carry knowledge from research into production.

This is a full-time, on-site role in Espoo, Finland. Relocation support is not available for this role.

What You’ll Actually Do
  • Assemble, install and verify cryogenic and room-temperature RF cabling, attenuators, amplifiers, filters and coaxial assemblies.
  • Run RF measurements with VNAs, spectrum analysers and signal generators, then analyse the data and explain what it means for system performance.
  • Troubleshoot signal integrity, impedance mismatches and noise in measurement setups.
  • Support commissioning and performance testing of cryogenic systems used for RF and quantum device testing.
  • Work with scientists and senior engineers to improve measurement setups and validate new assemblies.
  • Own small engineering tasks and sub-projects, from planning and gathering information to execution and reporting.
  • Write clear assembly instructions and documentation so production teams can repeat your work.
  • Keep the lab safe and organised, and suggest practical improvements to designs and processes.
What We’re Looking For
  • BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, RF Engineering, Physics, Quantum Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with RF systems in a lab, research or industry setting.
  • Solid understanding of RF fundamentals, including S-parameters, transmission lines, attenuation and amplification.
  • Practical experience with a VNA, spectrum analyser, signal generator and multimeter, including testing microwave components.
  • Hands-on assembly skills. You build your own setups, solder, and do precise wiring work, also in tight spaces.
  • Experience working in an electrostatic discharge (ESD) protected area and following structured lab practices.
  • Strong documentation skills. You write instructions that someone else can follow and repeat.
  • You think critically and try to solve problems yourself first, and you know when to raise a flag and ask for guidance.
  • You learn fast, stay curious and take initiative, while following safety and process guidelines.
Nice To Have
  • Experience with cryogenic systems, dilution refrigerators or high vacuum.
  • Experience with 4-wire measurements of low resistances.
  • Familiarity with lean practices such as 5S.
  • Experience from a quantum technology lab, in academia or industry.
Why IQM?
  • Full-stack quantum computing: From quantum hardware to software layers and beyond, we build across the full-stack.
  • High-performance playground: We aim high, and we know sustainable performance only works when life outside work does too—hybrid setups, flexible hours.
  • Never the smartest: You won’t always be the smartest person in the room. Neither will we. Expect to learn constantly - from each other and beyond with IQM’s Learning Hub, LinkedIn Learning, and a team-based L&D budget.
  • Approachable leadership: Flat hierarchy, direct access. Feel free to approach any leaders. They're friendlier than they look!
  • The sweet spot: Big enough to matter. Small enough to move fast. Growing between a startup and a corporation. We’re in the phase where top performers get noticed.
  • Bigger than IQM: Our people build know-how for the entire quantum ecosystem. We publish papers, run hackathons, and help shape a market that's still being defined.
The future of computing won’t build itself. You might be one of the few who do.
