Job description

At IQM, we build world‑leading quantum computers for the well‑being of humankind. We design systems to tackle computational challenges beyond the practical limits of classical machines. Our work sits at the edge of science and engineering. It is complex, demanding, and deeply collaborative. We turn deep research into reliable, full‑stack systems that drive discoveries in fields like medicine, energy, and technology, reshaping how the world computes.

About the Role

The performance of a quantum computer starts in the cleanroom. As a Quantum Engineer, you will lead the development of fabrication processes for IQM’s next‑generation quantum chips, solving complex engineering challenges and translating experimental breakthroughs into scalable manufacturing technologies.

What You’ll Actually Do
  • Lead the development and optimization of quantum chip fabrication processes through structured experimentation and data‑driven iteration.
  • Design, execute, and analyze hypothesis‑driven experiments to evaluate new materials, fabrication methods, and process flows.
  • Assess technical feasibility, risks, and integration strategies for future QPU architectures.
  • Collaborate with Design, Calibration, Equipment Engineering, Process Integration, Chip Production, and Cleanroom teams to bring new fabrication technologies into production.
  • Mentor Process Engineers and Technicians, supporting experimental design, troubleshooting, and technical growth while fostering a safe and transparent engineering culture.
  • Document technical knowledge through reports, patent contributions, technical reports, and publications, and help transition successful R&D developments into scalable manufacturing.
What We’re Looking For
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in micro‑ or nanofabrication, including at least 2 years focused on R&D or technology development within quantum or semiconductor technologies.
  • Deep expertise in quantum chip or advanced semiconductor fabrication processes and experience developing and validating new manufacturing techniques.
  • Master’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Materials Science, or a related field (a PhD is a strong advantage). Equivalent industry experience is also valued.
  • Strong experimental mindset with experience designing structured investigations, interpreting complex data, and making evidence‑based technical decisions.
  • Comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams while independently driving long‑term technical initiatives and navigating uncertainty.
  • Excellent technical communication skills and the ability to mentor colleagues and share knowledge across engineering teams.
  • We encourage applicants at all experience levels: Advanced / Senior / Staff.
Nice to Have
  • Experience contributing to patents, scientific publications, or technology roadmaps.
  • Familiarity with scaling research processes into robust, manufacturable production technologies.
Why IQM?
  • Full‑stack quantum computing: from hardware to software across the entire stack.
  • High‑performance playground with hybrid setups and flexible hours.
  • Continuous learning culture; you’ll not always be the smartest person in the room.
  • Approachable leadership and flat hierarchy.
  • Growth opportunities in a company that bridges startup agility and corporate impact.
  • Contribute to a broader quantum ecosystem through publications, hackathons, and market shaping.
