Job summary

VTT, located in Espoo, Finland, seeks a Research Scientist to advance quantum algorithms and software development within the Quantum Algorithms and Software team. You will design, implement, and evaluate quantum workflows across platforms, aiming to solve real-world problems with industry partners.

You will collaborate with researchers and engineers, contribute to the UnloQ project, and help drive noise-tolerance pathways for practical business adoption of quantum computing.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in physics, mathematics, computer science, or related field.
• Experience in quantum computing, algorithms, or related research area.
• Knowledge of near-term quantum platforms and circuit design.
• Strong programming skills for reproducible workflows.
• Experience with quantum software frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane, or equivalents.
• Excellent English communication, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate quantum algorithms and hybrid quantum-classical frameworks.
• Design benchmarking studies on VTT quantum computers and simulators.
• Develop software tools, libraries, and workflows for quantum research.
• Investigate practical quantum computing applications for scientific and industrial challenges.
• Collaborate with researchers, software engineers, and industrial partners.
• Contribute as work package leader or project member.
