Job summary

The Helsinki Logic Group is recruiting a PhD student interested in completing a PhD in mathematical logic. The position is part of the research project “Logic and Computation over Semirings” funded by the Academy of Finland, led by Professor Juha Kontinen.

The appointee will conduct independent research and prepare a dissertation within the SciDoc Doctoral Programme at the University of Helsinki. The fixed-term appointment runs from 1.9.2026 to 31.8.2030, with a six-month trial.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent in logic by start date.
• Ability to conduct independent research.
• Fluent English language skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out research on the interface between logic and computation in classical and algebraic frameworks.
• Write scientific manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed conferences and journals.
• Teaching and public engagement duties comprising 10% of the annual working time.
