Job summary

Orion in Turku is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join the VivoCare unit in a permanent full‑time position. You will be responsible for daily care of research animals, monitor their wellbeing, and document related activities in a structured laboratory environment.

Job Description
Your role

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our research operations in Turku in a permanent full-time position. In this role, you will be responsible for the daily care of research animals, monitoring their well-being, and carrying out related reporting and documentation. Your work will also include maintaining animal facilities and collaborating closely with research personnel. You will be part of the VivoCare unit.

Studies conducted with animals play a crucial role in the development of new and improved medicines and are required before regulatory authorities can grant permission to proceed with clinical trials in humans. Orion is committed to conducting all necessary animal research responsibly, with animal well-being as a top priority.

The position is located in Turku, is fully on-site, and will start in mid-September 2026.

Responsibilities

The role includes daily care-related tasks in a laboratory animal environment and supporting high standards of animal welfare. Responsibilities consist of routine operational work, such as operating, cleaning, and maintaining equipment used in daily activities.

The position involves physically demanding tasks, including cleaning animal rooms and laboratory facilities. Work is primarily carried out on weekdays during daytime hours, with occasional weekend work as part of the role.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a motivated and reliable team player with an understanding of animal welfare and basic animal care. You value responsible work practices and enjoy working in a structured laboratory environment. You are interested in developing your expertise and building a long-term career in a research environment.

You are able to follow instructions carefully, work accurately, and collaborate effectively with colleagues. A practical, hands-on working approach and good physical capacity are important in this role, as well as flexibility to work occasional weekends.

The role requires the ability to work in both Finnish and English. Previous relevant work experience and a vocational qualification in laboratory animal care, veterinary nursing, or basic animal care are considered an advantage.

An approved medical examination, which also includes drug testing, is required prior to employment. We will also carry out a security clearance prior to the employment for the selected person.
