Job summary

Boliden Kevitsa in Finland is seeking a Database Geologist to manage, quality assure and develop the geological database, forming the backbone for production planning, reporting and decision-making.

You will join the mine geology team at the Kevitsa mine in Sodankylä, with partial remote work and opportunities to work with geological software and Power BI reports, while contributing to QA/QC and data management across operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum BSc in geology, mining or natural sciences.
• Experience in a mining and/or exploration environment.
• Understanding of how geological data is used in operational activities.
• Fluent written and spoken English skills.

Would you like to play a key role in ensuring the availability and effective use of high-quality geological data at one of Europe’s most significant polymetallic mines?

Boliden Kevitsa is looking for a permanent employee for the position of

Database Geologist

As a Database Geologist, you will be responsible for managing, quality assuring and developing the geological database. The role is key to the entire mining operation, as high-quality geological data forms the basis for production planning, grade control, reporting and decision-making. You will also participate in the development of digital tools and software solutions in cooperation with internal stakeholders, software suppliers and consultants.

Your responsibilities will include, for example:

• maintaining and developing geological databases
• quality assurance of geological data (QA/QC)
• preparing and updating instructions and ways of working related to databases and quality management
• creating and further developing Power BI reports
• developing reconciliation between forecasts and actual production
• developing and maintaining geological software
• participating in various development and project tasks.

You do not need to master all these responsibilities from day one, we will provide induction for the different areas of the role.

Who will you work with?

You will join Kevitsa’s mine geology team and work closely with geology, mine planning, the concentrator and other mining operations in particular.

You will mainly work at the Kevitsa mine in Sodankylä. The role also occasionally includes work in sample handling facilities, in the open pit and elsewhere in the mining area. Partial remote work is possible in this position.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

• a suitable university degree (minimum BSc) in geology, mining or natural sciences
• experience from a mining and/or exploration environment
• an understanding of how geological data is used in operational activities
• fluent written and spoken English skills
• a proactive, collaborative and solution-oriented way of working, as well as an interest in developing operations.
