Job summary

Aiven is seeking a Backend Engineer to join our ClickHouse-focused team in Helsinki. You will build and operate the backend services and CI/CD pipelines powering our managed ClickHouse service, using Python in an async-first codebase.

You will collaborate with a small team, tackle Linux internals, contribute to architecture decisions, ensure code quality and testing, and leverage AI coding tools to accelerate development in a hybrid Helsinki environment.

Qualifications

• Solid Python development with async patterns (asyncio) and production-grade code.
• Strong understanding of relational and analytical databases.
• Deep Linux knowledge (systemd, filesystem internals) and debugging at OS level.
• CI/CD experience with pipelines (Buildkite, GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with automated testing (unit/integration/system tests).
• Experience with AI coding tools to accelerate development.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services in Python that manage the ClickHouse service lifecycle.
• Work with CI/CD pipelines to ship code reliably and often.
• Investigate and resolve production issues across the stack from Python to Linux.
• Contribute to technical planning within a small team and shape the roadmap.
• Write well-tested, type-checked code and participate in code reviews.
• Use AI coding tools as part of daily workflow to accelerate development.
