Norsk Hydro is seeking a skilled Welding Engineer to support welding development, qualification, and execution for structural components in railway applications. You will work with MIG, TIG, and FSW processes, ensuring compliance with EN 15085 and ISO 3834, as well as customer and HSE requirements.

The role involves advising production sites, optimizing welding parameters, and supporting the automotive sector in technology selection, cost evaluation, and equipment planning.

Formación

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or related field.
  • Strong hands-on experience in welding (MIG, TIG, FSW).
  • Knowledge of railway welding standards and quality requirements.
  • Understanding of aluminium materials (6xxx alloys) and manufacturing processes.
  • Analytical skills with a structured, problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.

Responsabilidades

  • Support welding feasibility assessments during RFQs and project phases.
  • Develop and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and qualifications.
  • Define and optimize welding parameters with production teams.
  • Ensure compliance with EN 15085 and ISO 3834 and with customer requirements.
  • Provide on-site technical support and troubleshoot welding issues.
  • Lead root cause analyses for defects and support continuous improvement.
  • Define inspection and testing plans and support audits and certifications.
  • Guide production sites on welding technologies, industrialization, and best practices.

Role Purpose

The role is responsible for supporting the development, qualification, and execution of welding activities for structural components in railway applications (MIG, TIG, FSW). It combines deep technical welding expertise with strong knowledge of standards, materials, and quality requirements specific to the rail sector. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with key railway standards such as EN 15085, and ISO 3834 and ensures compliance with other quality standards, HSE regulations, and customer requirements.

In addition, the role supports the Automotive Sector in the selection of appropriate technologies, cost evaluation, and serial equipment planning, while also guiding, advising, and challenging the production sites.

What You Will Be Doing

What Will Make You Successful
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Materials Science, or related field
  • Strong hands‑on experience in welding (MIG, TIG, FSW), ideally in rail or aluminium environments
  • Knowledge of railway welding standards and quality requirements
  • Understanding of aluminium materials (especially 6xxx alloys) and manufacturing processes
  • Strong analytical skills and a structured, problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams and functions
  • Fluent English (German/French is an advantage)
