Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) in Badalona seeks a Predoctoral Researcher for the Stem cells and cancer group led by Dr. Anna Bigas.

You will design, execute, and analyze stem cell biology experiments, supervise cell culture of human and mouse cells, and train students in a dynamic, international lab. The role involves coordinating with international groups, contributing to proposals, and supporting translational research within a mixed basic and clinical environment.

Formación

The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is a comprehensive cancer research center dedicated to conduct research and drive innovation in the epidemiological, preventive, clinical, translational, and basic aspects of leukaemia and other hematologic malignancies, with the final aim of finding a cure for these diseases. It was created in 2010, and since then has experienced an exponential growth.

The IJC is also part of the network of Excellence Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA) and was accredited as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities in 2024. Since 2018, the Institute has also been accredited by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (FCAECC) Additionally, IJC is one of the centers integrated into the Institut de Recerca Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) accreditation as Accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).

The IJC's main headquarters is located within the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus, alongside other leading biomedical institutions, providing direct access to cutting-edge scientific and technological facilities, as well as complementary community services. The IJC has six locations integrated into reference hospitals: Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Hospital Clínic, Hospital Sant Pau, Hospital Josep Trueta, Hospital del Mar and Hospital San Joan de Déu. This facilitates close collaboration between basic and clinical researchers, fostering translational research that integrates basic science with clinical practice in clinical settings.

The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is looking for a Predoctoral Researcher for the Stem cells and cancer group led by Dr. Anna Bigas.

RESEARCH DESCRIPTION

Our research group investigates how to generate and maintain the stem cells in the hematopoietic system under physiological conditions but also how these processes are mimicked by the tumors for their perpetuation. We constantly improve our research by implementing novel technology to understand the process of normal and malignant hematopoietic development. Our research includes basic studies at the molecular level to understand cellular processes in the context of mouse models and human patients.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Experimental design, execution and analysis for stem cell biology projects
• Perform and supervise cell culture of human and mouse stem cells (ES, iPSC, HSC), genetic transgenesis, cell engineering.
• Training of students in basic cell biology and student supervision
• Lab organization and maintenance, record-keeping, and inventory.
• Upkeeping of laboratory standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
• Experimental support of individual sub-projects as needed.
• Organizing meetings/workshops/seminars related to the project.
• To identify and contribute to the formulation of additional project proposals, and to contribute to the strategic research line of the group development.
• To establish and coordinate scientific relationships with other international groups/institutions.

WHAT WE NEED

• A degree in Biological sciencies, Biomedicine or similar.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in positions relevant to the job description.
• Managing experience in a laboratory environment, and knowledge of key operations, basic instrumentation, and safety procedures.
• Excellent organizational, management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to teamwork in a dynamic environment and to handle varying workloads.
• Experience in training and coordinating other scientists.
• Great organizational abilities and teamwork and training skills.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
• A good track record of scientific publications, and project presentations in international settings.
• Enthusiasm, pro-activity, impeccable work ethics and professionalism. Ability to manage multiple and competing tasks and responsibilities.
