Job summary

Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)- BarcelonaTECH seeks a researcher to develop solar cells based on elemental Se and Cu2O. You will synthesize Se and Cu2O, characterize materials and devices for indoor and semi-transparent PV applications, and explore kesterite technologies for photovoltaic use.

You will utilize SEM, XRD, XRF, JV, and EQE techniques and contribute to PV modeling. Required is a Master’s in physics, chemistry or electronic engineering, with experience in semiconductor

Offer Description

Mission:

Develop solar cells based on elemental Se and eventually Cu2O.

Functions to be developed:

• Perform the synthesis of Se (and eventually Cu2O) for solar cells.
• Develop the characterization of materials and devices for indoor and semi-transparency applications.
• In elemental Se or kesterite technologies for PV applications.
• Materials and device characterization techniques such as SEM, XRD, XRF, illuminated JV, EQE.
• Photovoltaic simulation and modeling: analysis and simulation of photovoltaic devices and materials.

Specific Requirements

Knowledge:

• Materials synthesis and thin film deposition: processing by chemical and physical routes for photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications.
• Device fabrication and characterization: integrated development and optoelectronic characterization of devices.
• It will be assessed:
  • Master's degree in physics, chemistry or electronic engineering.

Professional Experience:

• In semiconductor devices, from the synthesis of thin layers of chalcogenides, the manufacture/characterization of solar cells or optoelectronic devices.
• Experience in functions similar to those described will be valued, specifically in the development of research activities, both in the university and industrial environment.

Additional Information

€38,684.20 gross/year (for a full-time position)

Eligibility criteria

All the candidates who cannot prove the required academic degree will be immediately withdrawn from the selection process.

• 3 points for professional experience.
• 1 point for any aspect of the candidate’s professional profile to be determined as specially relevant by the Selection committee.

If the selection committee decide to include a personal interview as additional step of the selection process, only the candidates scored 5 or above for their CV will be retained for the interview step.

The interview will be assessed according the following criteria:

• Threshold: 3 points.
• The maximum score will be distributed according the following criteria:
• 2 points for adequacy to functional competences of the job.
• 2 points for adequacy of professional experience.
• 1 point for any aspect of the candidate’s professional profile to be determined as especially relevant by the Selection committee.

The eligible candidates will be ranked from highest to lowest score, being this the selection criteria.
