Scopely in Barcelona, Spain is seeking a Technical Release Manager to own the end-to-end release path across development lanes, defining the technical strategy and operating model for hundreds of contributors.

This senior role combines deep technical credibility with cross-functional coordination, balancing speed and stability while guiding teams through branch strategies, CI/CD, validation, and deployment infrastructure.

• Automate routine merge actions, propagation, backports, cleanups, and notifications.
• Mentor junior team members in release engineering and infrastructure practices.

We are looking for a Technical Release Manager in Barcelona, Spain, on a hybrid 3 days a week. We can support with visa sponsorship from any location.

We are in the early stages of development on an ambitious, unannounced, cross-platform Strategy/MMO title, creating a team of talented and passionate game makers to join us on this exciting journey!

The Technical Release Manager will own the complete path from local changes to validated availability across all development lanes. You will set the technical strategy and operating model for how hundreds of contributors safely exchange changes while maintaining velocity. This is a senior technical leadership role that requires both deep technical credibility and cross-functional coordination skills

What You’ll Do

• Own the path from local work to validated availability, including branch strategy, merge policy, propagation, validation, and exception handling across all development lanes
• Set the lifecycle contract for each development lane: why it exists, what belongs there, how it stays synchronized, conflict resolution, and retirement criteria
• Design and implement the technical systems and policies that enable change management at scale across source control, CI/CD, validation, and release infrastructure
• Surface dependencies and potential integration collisions early enough for teams to sequence work or knowingly accept rework, then preserve ordering and context as changes move between lanes
• Give all contributors a clear view of change status, blockers, ownership, and recovery paths, with downstream failures traceable to their source
• Improve conflict detection and target-lane validation; automate routine merge actions, propagation, backports, cleanup, and notifications
• Study how engineers, artists, designers, QA, production, and build teams actually work; then remove unnecessary ceremony, waiting, and specialist dependencies
• Measure flow health metrics and turn incidents and proven manual practices into better policy, tooling, and operations
• Coordinate work across Developer Experience, QA, CI/build infrastructure, production operations, and domain teams, with clear owners and backup coverage for critical operations
• Mentor and develop junior team members in release engineering and infrastructure practices

What We’re Looking For

• Highly experienced hands-on engineer with a track record of technical leadership on cross-functional programs
• Strong background in source control systems, branch strategies, merge queues, and CI/CD infrastructure
• Demonstrated ability to design and operate technical systems that support development teams at organizational scale
• Experience with release management, validation policy, and deployment infrastructure in complex product environments
• Exceptional ability to balance speed, stability, and delivery goals while explaining complex tradeoffs to senior leaders and teams
• Strong communication and people skills; ability to influence engineers, artists, designers, QA, and production teams without direct authority
• Proven track record of converting manual, repetitive processes into automated, well-documented systems
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
• Ability to analyze source control history, diagnose CI and integration failures, and prototype supporting tooling
• Curiosity about how different disciplines work and habit of finding the real workflow behind technical problems

Bonus Points

• Game development experience, particularly with Unity or large monorepos
• Experience with Git LFS, binary/non-mergeable assets, or parallel development mainlines
• Operating high-volume merge queues or change systems at substantial organizational scale
• Multiple simultaneous live releases or long-term development track experience
• Experience with large tightly-coupled products or complex content pipelines
• Knowledge of DevOps, build infrastructure, or platform engineering
• Experience designing developer productivity and experience improvements
