Responsibilities

• Lead installation, operation, and maintenance of the Base Telecommunications Distribution System.
• Maintain and support telephone switching, switchboards, inside plant infrastructure, station equipment, and outside plant fiber/copper cabling.
• Ensure proper delivery, configuration, and operation of telecommunications systems for base communications.
• Monitor system performance to ensure readiness and reliability.
• Supervise, train, and mentor personnel in telecom operations and maintenance.
• Assign work priorities and monitor performance for quality and timely completion.
• Promote safety procedures and compliance with technical standards.
• Verify installation, testing, commissioning, and documentation of components.
• Coordinate inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and service calls.
• Oversee lifecycle management including upgrades and replacements.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues and minimize downtime.

Amentum is seeking a Supervisor Base Communications Officeto support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Supervisor Base Communications Office will be responsible for overseeing the installation, operation, maintenance, and reliability of the Base Telecommunications Distribution System and associated communications infrastructure. This position provides technical leadership, supervises communications personnel, ensures compliance with industry standards, and maintains mission critical telecommunications systems supporting base operations.

Job Responsibilities:

• Lead the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Base Telecommunications Distribution System and all components.
• Maintain and support telephone switching systems, switchboards, inside plant infrastructure, station equipment, customer premise cabling, and outside plant fiber optic/copper cable systems.
• Ensure proper delivery, configuration, and operation of telecommunications systems supporting base communications infrastructure.
• Monitor system performance and functionality to ensure operational readiness and reliability.
• Supervise, train, and mentor personnel assigned to communications system operations and maintenance.
• Assign work priorities and monitor performance to ensure quality and timely completion of tasks.
• Promote compliance with safety procedures, technical standards, and organizational policies.
• Verify proper installation, testing, commissioning, and documentation of telecommunications components.
• Coordinate and document scheduled inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and service calls.
• Oversee the lifecycle management of communications infrastructure, including repairs, upgrades, replacements, and testing.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues while minimizing system downtime.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.

Minimum RequirementsRequired Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Relevant technical education or military communications training preferred.
• Certifications:
  • BICSI Registered Technician certification
  • Industry recognized manufacturer certifications
  • Telecommunication Certifications
  • AT&T, Cisco, or other certifications
• Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
• Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
• Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
• Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
• Must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience working in an austereOCONUS (Outside the Continental United States)environment with a multi-national workforce
• A valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle. Valid country driver's license. and passport.
• Experience with Base Telecommunications Distribution Systems.
• Experience supporting telephone switch systems, switchboard operations, inside plant switch and station maintenance, outside plant fiber optic and copper cable system, and structured network cabling.

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
