We do our work as a remote team, delivering cloud‑native solutions across public and private clouds.

Responsibilities

• Work on large‑scale, distributed systems to drive Hive innovation and build additional components.
• Create products addressing complex SQL query workloads on public or private clouds within the Cloudera Data Platform (CDP).
• Design and develop features for parallel and distributed query engines, advancing innovation in CDP.
• Focus on query optimization, performance, and scalability of SQL queries.
• Write design documentation for key features and capabilities.
• Improve code quality through tests, automation, and code reviews.
• Understand customers’ workloads and deliver effective technical solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent, with 6+ years of experience.
• Experience with query optimization tools such as Apache Calcite.
• Strong coding discipline, attention to detail, and quality focus.
• Proficiency in data structures and algorithms; programming in Java is desired.
• Solid understanding of database internals, query processing and SQL query optimization.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate on cross‑functional projects.

Preferred Background

• Contributions to open‑source Apache projects (Hive, Impala, Calcite) or other RDBMS.
• Experience with the Hadoop ecosystem and file formats such as Parquet and ORC.
• Familiarity with public cloud infrastructures (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Recognized contributions to open‑source initiatives.
