Junior Engineer – Java P2 – CAP-HPI

The Role

Our consumer and digital team provides trusted vehicle history checks and partners with major UK brands to deliver data, impacting millions of lives monthly.

As part of the Product Development team, you will be responsible for developing, supporting, and maintaining customer-facing and internal applications, adhering to high standards and quality. You will champion technology areas, help define standards, communicate with other business areas, gather requirements, and manage expectations effectively.

What You’ll Do

  1. Deliver work streams in an Agile environment, meeting time, cost, and quality objectives.
  2. Maintain a strong technical understanding and promote the latest software and technologies.
  3. Develop robust, resilient solutions aligned with CAP-HPI standards.
  4. Advocate for testing, change, and release management processes.
  5. Suggest and implement continuous improvements aligned with strategic goals.
  6. Propose innovative approaches to enhance workflows.
  7. Complete all mandated security and business continuity training and awareness courses.
  8. Familiarize yourself with relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines supporting your role.
  9. Support alignment with company ISO processes managed by the IS/BC team.
  10. Proactively address security threats, browser compatibility, and device support issues.

What You’ll Bring

Technical Experience

  • At least 2 years' experience delivering IT development projects.
  • A related degree or equivalent qualifications/experience.

Required:

  • Java 8 to 21
  • Java Web applications (e.g., Tomcat, Websphere, Spring MVC)
  • Experience with Stored Procedures (MSSQL, DB2, MongoDB, Postgres)

Desirable:

  • Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Pair Programming, TDD)
  • Test tooling (Selenium, JUnit, Mockito, PowerMock, Karma, Jasmine)
  • Knowledge of REST/JSON APIs (Swagger, HATEOAS)
  • Spring Framework (including Spring Boot, Spring Batch)
  • Build tools (Maven, Ant)
  • Unix environment familiarity
  • JavaScript skills (JSON, Typescript, AngularJS/Angular)
  • ELK stack knowledge
  • Experience with Websphere
  • CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Concourse, Git, GitLab, Octopus)
  • Web servers (Apache, Nginx)
