ABB Traction Division seeks a Control Software Engineer to develop and troubleshoot software for traction applications, including on-site support and commissioning across vehicles such as trams, locomotives, and trains.

The role requires at least 4 years in real-time control software, experience with IEC 61131-3 (CODESYS) and MATLAB/Simulink, and strong English and Spanish communication skills. Limited travel and on-site work are expected.

Formación

• University degree in a relevant field (Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or Computer Science).
• Minimum 4 years of experience in software development for closed-loop control, signal processing, algorithms and real-time programming.
• Experience with IEC 61131-3 programming languages (CODESYS) and Matlab/Simulink.
• Knowledge of software versioning tools (SVN, Git) and field-bus protocols (CAN, TRDP, J1939, MVB).

Responsabilidades

• Develop and test traction application software for vehicles and systems (trams, locomotives, trains, maintenance vehicles).
• Serve as first-level SW support at customer sites, troubleshoot, gather data, and address issues.
• Coordinate technical solutions with peers to maximise re-use and conformity to standards while enabling commissioning and homologation.
• Travel extensively for field testing, commissioning, and on-site support, including night shifts and weekends as needed.

You will make good, but considerate use of your colleague’s contacts in case you need additional information to continue the troubleshooting.Using already prepared SW and documents you make necessary adaptations and extensions to address the customer needs, while respecting the defined standards and homologation requirementsTesting and troubleshooting software in diverse environments and support our customers during commissioning and homologation on the vehicle. For these activities you are willing to travel to a high extent. Being part of our team means your work matters - because the progress we make here creates real impact out there.Qualifications for the RoleYou have a University (Higher education) degree in Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science or equivalent.You bring a minimum of 4 years of working experience in SW development for closed loop control, signal processing, algorithms, real time programming mechanisms, commissioning.You have experience with IEC 61131-3 programming languages (CODESYS) and Matlab Simulink.You have knowledge of SW Versioning tools (SVN, Git).You have broad knowledge of converter control, power electronics or automotive.You have experience with communication protocols and field bus (CAN, TRDP, J1939, MVB, …).This is a plus if you bring some understanding of SW development processes standards (like EN 50657, EN 50128 or IS0 26262).You show strong written and spoken communication skills in English and Spanish.We empower you to take the lead, share bold ideas, and shape real outcomes.
