Job description

Senior Software Engineer - C++ / Linux
Flight Simulation Software
About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our simulation engineering team, developing and maintaining software solutions for aeronautical simulation systems.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, integration, and verification of high-quality software, working primarily with C++ in a Linux environment. You will collaborate with a team of engineers on complex simulation projects, helping to develop robust, maintainable, and reusable software components while contributing to continuous improvements in software quality and development practices.

We are looking for an engineer with strong C++ programming skills, solid Linux expertise, and a good understanding of modern software development practices and tools.

Experience in flight simulation or aeronautical systems is a plus, but candidates with a strong software engineering background from other domains are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software components using C++ in a Linux environment.
  • Contribute to software architecture and technical design decisions, promoting modularity, maintainability, and reusability.
  • Develop, build, debug, and troubleshoot software in Linux-based environments.
  • Manage software dependencies and build configurations using tools such as CMake and Conan.
  • Use Git for version control and collaborate effectively within a software development team.
  • Use Docker to support consistent development, integration, and testing environments.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests and contribute to software verification, code quality, and continuous integration activities.
  • Use static analysis and code quality tools to identify issues and improve software quality.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate software components into simulation systems.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • At least 8 years of professional software development experience, with substantial experience in C++.
  • Strong knowledge of modern C++ (C++14/17 or later), including the Standard Template Library (STL), memory management, object-oriented design, and software engineering best practices.
  • Solid experience working in Linux environments, including command-line tools, shell scripting and software development and debugging.
  • Practical experience with CMake for software configuration and builds.
  • Experience managing software dependencies and packages, preferably using Conan.
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative version control workflows.
  • Practical experience using Docker for development, testing, or integration.
  • Good understanding of software testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and code quality practices.
  • Ability to analyse complex technical problems, work independently, and take ownership of software deliverables.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within an international engineering environment.
Desired Qualifications and Experience

The following skills and experience would be considered an advantage:

  • Experience with flight simulation systems, simulation frameworks, or simulation software.
  • Familiarity with flight simulation architectures, relevant standards, and interoperability concepts.
  • Experience with aeronautical systems, avionics, flight dynamics models, or aircraft systems simulation.
  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks, unit and integration testing, and code coverage.
  • Experience with continuous integration tools such as Jenkins and static analysis and code quality tools such as SonarQube and Clang-Tidy.
  • Knowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, and reusable software components.
  • Experience with software integration and testing environments, including Model-in-thje-Loop (MIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL).
  • Experience working in aerospace, defence, or other complex engineering domains.
What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a proactive and technically strong software engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, takes ownership of software quality, and is committed to continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate combines deep C++ expertise with practical Linux development experience and a structured approach to software engineering. They understand the importance of maintainable, reusable software and effective development practices, and they are comfortable collaborating with engineers from different disciplines.
