Job summary

adesso Spain is assembling a backend team to build and evolve Java/Spring services supporting digital mobility. You will design and implement reliable distributed systems, focusing on data integrity, transactions, and scalable architecture.

You’ll work on backend services, microservices, and event-driven flows with Kafka, in a cross-functional team spanning Madrid, Barcelona, and Portugal. The role emphasizes collaboration with Product Owners, QA, and other engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend development with Java/Spring.
• Experience with microservice architectures and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of Kafka or similar messaging platforms, including partitions and ordering.
• Understanding concurrency, locking, and data integrity.
• Experience with relational databases and performance analysis.
• Ability to explain trade-offs and design decisions.
• Experience creating automated tests and collaborating with QA.

Job description

At adesso Spain, we're building a team for an international project in the mobility sector.

You'll work remotely from Madrid or Barcelona, collaborating with the client's international teams and adesso colleagues, including team members based in Portugal. Together, you'll build and evolve the backend systems that support digital mobility services, with a focus on reliable distributed architectures, data consistency, and high-quality software.

You'll design and develop Java-based backend services, helping the team solve complex challenges around transactions, event processing, concurrency, and data integrity. You'll take part in technical decisions, explain the trade-offs behind your solutions, and work closely with Product Owners, QA, and other engineering teams.

What you'll do:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring.
• Develop and evolve microservices and distributed systems for digital mobility services.
• Work with transactional processes in Spring, understanding transaction boundaries and their implications.
• Build reliable integrations and event-driven flows using Kafka or an equivalent messaging platform.
• Address concurrency challenges, race conditions, locking, and data integrity.
• Work with relational databases, including query performance, indexes, and troubleshooting.
• Create and maintain automated tests, collaborating closely with QA.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and communicate the trade-offs of different solutions.
• Collaborate with client and adesso teams in an international, cross-functional environment.

What we're looking for:

• Strong experience developing backend applications with Java and Spring Framework (+6 years).
• Practical understanding of transactions, including their limits and behaviour in Spring applications.
• Experience with microservice architectures and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of Kafka or an equivalent messaging platform, including partitions, event ordering, consumers, and failure handling.
• Ability to reason about concurrency, race conditions, locking, and data integrity.
• Experience with relational databases, indexes, and performance analysis.
• Ability to design solutions and clearly explain their trade-offs.
• Experience creating and maintaining automated tests, and collaborating with QA teams.
• Clear communication skills and confidence working with technical and non-technical stakeholders in English.
• Patterns such as transactional outbox, idempotency, read models, and event-driven processing.
• Hexagonal architecture, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and API design.
• Data migrations or system integrations with consistency requirements.
• Kubernetes, CI/CD, monitoring, and production troubleshooting.
• Practical use of AI coding assistants, including spec-driven development, test generation, or agents configured with project rules.
• Technical leadership, participation in architecture decisions, or coordination with Product Owners, QA, and other teams.
