Lace Lithography is seeking a Senior Optimization Engineer to join our Mask Design team in Barcelona. You will architect and deploy advanced nonlinear optimization engines that define the theoretical limits of our lithography systems, collaborating with physicists and developers to deliver high-performance solutions in a cutting-edge setting.

Based in Barcelona with regular travel to Bergen, you will deepen solver integration, optimize large-scale problems, and contribute to the software

Formación

  • PhD in Applied Mathematics, CS, Computational Physics, or Operations Research (or MS with extensive numerical computing experience).
  • Deep command of nonlinear optimization theory, including KKT conditions, duality, and Interior Point or Trust-Region methods.
  • Proven track record solving massive-scale optimization problems (1M+ variables).
  • Advanced proficiency in Julia, C++, or Python, with a strong focus on type stability, memory allocation, and vectorization.
  • Numerical Linear Algebra: knowledge of sparse matrices, iterative solvers, and preconditioning.
  • Solver Expertise: tuning and interfacing with IPOPT/KNITRO/SNOPT at a low level.
  • Software Engineering: Git, unit testing for numerical code, CI/CD.
  • Technical Communication: distill complex math into engineering decisions.

Responsabilidades

  • Design and engineer custom, large-scale nonlinear optimization algorithms.
  • Translate multiphysics phenomena into differentiable optimization problems.
  • Deeply customize solver behaviors and backends (Hessian, callbacks).
  • Write optimized, modular scientific code in Julia, Python, or C++.
  • Implement distributed and GPU-accelerated optimization routines.
  • Profile performance and optimize memory access and algorithmic bottlenecks.
  • Design validation frameworks to stress-test convergence and robustness.
  • Collaborate with physics and hardware teams to align models with real systems.
  • Lead code reviews and promote numerical computing best practices.
