ING Hubs Spain in Madrid is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join the DDoS Squad within the Global Security Organization (GSO). You will design, develop and maintain software that manages firewall rules and strengthens ING's global network security.

Working in an international, Agile/DevOps setting, you will use Spring Boot and Java, implement CI/CD pipelines, IaC with Terraform/Ansible, and manage Kubernetes/OpenShift deployments.

• Experience with Spring Boot (or Java EE) in enterprise environments.
• CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code practices experience.
• Kubernetes and/or OpenShift knowledge.
• Understanding of security and risk in software development.
• Automation/orchestration tools such as Helm, Terraform and Ansible.
• Strong communication and adaptability to changing priorities.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant IT discipline and strong English skills.

Your role and work environment

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Java Developer to join our DDoS Squad within the Global Security Organization (GSO).

The responsibility of this team is to design, develop and maintain software solutions that manage firewall rules and strengthen the security of ING's global network infrastructure. The squad operates in an international environment with colleagues located across several countries, working together to deliver secure, scalable and resilient solutions.

Our way of working is based on Agile and DevOps principles, fostering collaboration, continuous improvement and end-to-end ownership. You will work closely with Product Managers, Engineers and other stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions that support ING's security landscape.

Your key responsibilities

As a Java Engineer, you will:

• Design, develop and enhance software functionalities using Spring Boot and Java technologies.
• Build and deploy solutions following CI/CD best practices and automated deployment pipelines.
• Develop and automate infrastructure components using Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end solutions aligned with business and security requirements.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, contributing to planning, refinement and continuous delivery activities.
• Maintain and improve software documentation, operational procedures and development standards.
• Monitor and optimize Incident, Problem, Change and Configuration Management processes.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of applications, infrastructure and engineering practices.

What are we looking for?

Essential requirements:

• Proven experience developing applications with Spring Boot (preferred) or Java EE.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes and/or OpenShift.
• Understanding of security and risk principles applied to software development.
• Experience with automation and orchestration tools such as Helm, Terraform and Ansible.
• Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
• Professional and intellectual IT capability, ideally supported by a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
• Excellent spoken and written English skills.

Nice to have:

• Knowledge of network and security environments.
• Scripting experience in Python, Bash or PowerShell.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Understanding of Scrum frameworks and ceremonies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement.
• Collaborative team player with a passion for knowledge sharing.
• End-to-end ownership mentality and ability to work autonomously.
• Interest in mentoring and supporting the development of colleagues.
