Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Highways Engineer to join our Linear Infrastructures team in Madrid. The role focuses on roadway geometric design and related tasks on projects ranging from feasibility to detailed designs.

You will work across disciplines with international clients, delivering high-quality roadway designs while adhering to schedules and budgets. Fluent English and a Civil Engineering degree are required; US/Australia PE experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of highway designs (+5 years).
• Experience with international regulations and standards (AASHTO; British Standards; Australian Codes).
• Advanced highway geometric design and 3D modeling with OpenRoads Designer and Civil 3D.
• Advanced CAD skills (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
• Experience in North America or Australia is favorable.
• Fluent in English (oral and written).

Responsibilities

• Independently designing roadway/highway projects and related elements.
• Lead geometric design, maintenance of traffic, pavement and traffic signs.
• Coordinate with drainage, bridges and other disciplines.
• Perform engineering work within budget and schedule with minimal supervision.
• Self-check outputs and participate in QC reviews.
• Provide guidance to junior engineers and prepare deliverables.

Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Highways Engineer with experience in roadway geometric design, to join our ambitious and experienced Linear Infrastructures team. We are working on stages as early as feasibility studies up to detailed designs on a wide range of projects, either as standalone linear infrastructures team or as part of multidisciplinary teams. Our clients are from the private and public sector and include long term Framework Agreements with numerous Local Authorities together with Design and Build commissions for many major Contractors. Our office has an established track record of successfully delivering roadway designs for many years, throughout the USA and Australia not to mention Canada or Middle East. You may have the opportunity to work on some of the most iconic Transportation projects, being part of a diverse and multicultural team for the Europe Enterprise Capabilities Center (Poland/Spain).

The responsibilities of this role include:

• Work is accomplished autonomously on small projects or portions of larger projects supported by EC within established procedures and practices related to linear infrastructures
• Independently preparing design calculations or reports related to linear infrastructure elements (geometric design)
• Leads the design of roadway and highway projects on a variety of tasks that goes from the geometric design, maintenance of traffic, pavement, traffic signs, etc. but also coordination with other disciplines (drainage, bridges, etc.)
• Performs highway engineering work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
• Performs a self-check of work products prior to submitting to others and participates in quality control reviews of documentation originated by equally or less experienced staff.
• Prepares project deliverables that are reviewed by senior team members.
• Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of working on highway designs (+5 years).
• Experience with international regulations and standards (i.e AASTHO; Australian Codes; British Standards, etc.) will be considered favorably.
• Advanced level in highway geometric design and 3D modeling using the following software: Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D.
• Advanced level in CAD software (preferable AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
• Experience working in the North America region / Australia will be considered favorably.
• Fluent in English (oral and written)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master degree in Civil Engineering
• US and/or Australia Professional Engineer license will be considered favorably
