Amazon Data Services Spain, S.L. in Madrid seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to lead structural designs for AWS data centers in the EMEA region.

You will guide architecture, engineering and design teams, develop basis of design documents, and ensure compliance with local regulations while optimizing cost and reliability across projects.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including data centers.
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.

• Develop & maintain structural Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications.
• Structural Design lead on Data Centre projects with the following duties: prepare conceptual data centre scheme designs, partner with internal customers to establish scope, schedule and deliverables.
• Create, review and release RFPs for engagement of external design vendors, including review bids and recommendations.
• Manage external design consultants through design and construction, ensuring high standards of deliverables on schedule.
• Coordinate with internal and external Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Fire and Cabling design engineers.
• Influence deviations to AWS reference design based on localisation and site needs.
• Create and track metrics related to cost, quality and duration of design.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join its design team in Madrid, Spain.

Our team is responsible for achieving a world class uptime for our customers and drive to develop a fleet of buildings that emphasize security, safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness, while finding new ways to meet AWS’s growing demand.

As a Senior Structural Engineer at AWS, you will lead structural designs for AWS DCs in our Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) geography and impact other projects around the world. As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. As a subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical DC facilities, provide technical guidance, solve large scale implementation issues, and be responsible for structural design requirements.

Key job responsibilities

• Develop & maintain structural Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications;
• Structural Design lead on Data Centre projects with the following duties:
• Prepare conceptual data centre scheme designs based on information available from the due diligence site assessments and local regulations and permitting requirements
• Partnering and communicating with internal customers to establish project scope, schedule and deliverables
• Create, review and release RFPs for engagement of external design vendor, including review bids and make recommendations
• As structural Design lead on Data Centre projects will Manage our external design consultants through the design and construction process ensuring high standards of deliverables complete on schedule.
• Coordinate with internal and external Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Fire and Cabling design engineers;
• Influence and manage deviations to the AWS reference design based on localisation and site specific and internal customer needs
• Creating and tracking metrics related to cost, quality and duration of design
• Collecting data from operations, construction and commissioning teams as designs are implemented.
• Create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction;
• Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions during design and during the construction to comply with local regulations and reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineering or Architectural License
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
• Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance
