EPAM Systems in Madrid, Spain, is seeking a Senior Data Engineer (Python/Tableau) to design and optimize SQL-driven data transformations and develop scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for analytics and reporting. The role supports enterprise data models and regulatory reporting in a hybrid work setup.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams in banking environments, applying data quality checks, CI/CD practices, and observability to ensure reliable pipelines and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
• Minimum 5+ years of SQL-centric data engineering or backend experience.
• Expert-level SQL development including query optimization and tuning.
• Strong data modelling knowledge: Data Vault, dimensional, SCD and 3NF.
• Proficiency in Python for automation and integrations.
• Experience with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI for backend enablement.
• Experience in banking or regulated environments is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize SQL transformations to support analytics and reporting.
• Design and extend enterprise data models (Data Vault, dimensional, 3NF) and maintain standards.
• Implement data quality checks, validation logic and SQL testing frameworks.
• Build and operate SQL-centric ETL/ELT pipelines with optimization and reliability.
• Use Python for automation, API integrations and workflow enhancements.
• Prepare datasets for BI tools (Tableau, Power BI) ensuring performance and governance.
• Collaborate with finance, risk and compliance to translate requirements into data solutions.
• Ensure monitoring, observability and operational stability of pipelines in production.
• Follow engineering best practices: version control, documentation, CI/CD.
• Contribute to platform improvements and architectural roadmap.
