Job summary

Workato is seeking a PostgreSQL DBA to own data-layer design, query optimization, and reliable automation across multi-terabyte deployments on AWS Aurora. You will balance developer support with long-cycle reliability projects and drive incident response and RCAs.

The role requires hands-on ops experience with PostgreSQL, Terraform/Ansible automation, and strong knowledge of connection-pooling (PgBouncer) and Kubernetes for EKS-based tooling.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on operational PostgreSQL experience (DBA / database reliability role).
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
• Strong incident-management and RCA skills.
• Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code practices; Linux proficiency.
• Scripting ability (Bash, Python or Go) and automation-first mindset.
• Experience with connection pooling (PgBouncer) in production.
• Experience with logical replication, upgrades with minimal downtime.
• Production experience with managed PostgreSQL (Aurora or RDS).
• Exposure to ClickHouse, OpenSearch, Redis/Valkey, Neo4j.
• Kubernetes fundamentals (EKS) for poolers, proxies, exporters.
• Vault, ArgoCD or GitOps workflows.
• Comfort using AI coding assistants to accelerate routine analysis.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day PostgreSQL operations across production data centers.
• Design indexes and schema on multi-terabyte tables; optimize queries for apps.
• Maintain and tune Aurora PostgreSQL: parameter groups, replicas, failover, capacity planning.
• Run PgBouncer and manage the connection-pooling layer.
• Automate runbooks into released, repeatable processes (Terraform + Ansible).
• Drive incident response and RCAs with follow-up actions.
• Improve database observability with exporters and dashboards.
• Split time between support for developer requests and long-cycle reliability projects.
• Partner with application teams on data-model decisions and scalable designs.
• Participate in duty rotation and protect focus time off-duty.
