Job summary

Ookla is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to own the Android SDKs (CQoE and Speedtest) and lead features across millions of devices, balancing SDK and app code with well-designed APIs.

You will work across Kotlin/Java, JNI/NDK and the shared C++ engine, debugging native code and integrating AI-assisted tooling while maintaining privacy and security.

The role requires 5+ years of software development, Android experience, and proven SDK/library expertise in building, testing, and documentation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Experience with Android using Kotlin and Java.
• Substantial experience building and maintaining SDKs or libraries.
• Strong data literacy: SQL to investigate production and measurement data, Python for analysis, and data-quality monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain network measurement features in the Android SDKs (CQoE and Speedtest).
• Work across the JNI/NDK boundary into the shared C++ engine, debugging native code.
• Introduce AI-assisted tooling with safety, privacy, security, and verification guardrails.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and deliver end-to-end ownership of features and fixes.
• Roll out SDK and measurement changes behind feature flags and verify real-world behavior post-release.
