Job summary

Autonomous University of Madrid (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) invites applications for a First Stage Researcher (R1) in ecology. The project will assess effects of wind-farm lighting on bird behaviour.

Responsibilities include field capture/marking, data management, statistical analyses in R, GIS work, literature reviews and manuscript preparation. Ideal candidates have hands-on bird handling experience, knowledge of GIS, strong data management skills and fluency in English.

Offer Description

Project-based contract to assess the effects of lighting associated with wind farms on bird behaviour. Duties include:

• Bird capture and marking.
• Conducting statistical analyses.
• Writing scientific articles.
• Data recording and management.
• Data processing, cleaning, and statistical analysis using appropriate tools and methodologies, including R where applicable.
• Interpretation of results.
• Searching for and reviewing scientific literature related to the project’s objectives.
• Contributing to the preparation of project reports and scientific articles.
• Participating in work meetings and collaborating with the research team.
• Previous experience in the capture, handling, marking, and scientific ringing of birds, with particular value placed on experience with steppe passerines, especially Dupont’s Lark ( Chersophilus duponti ) and Eurasian Skylark ( Alauda arvensis ).
• Experience in the collection, recording, and management of field data.
• Basic knowledge of statistical analysis, with particular value placed on proficiency in the R statistical programming language and environment.
• Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), particularly QGIS.
• Experience or knowledge in the processing, cleaning, and organization of databases.
• Previous involvement in the publication of scientific manuscripts will be considered an asset.
• Experience in projects related to bird ecology will be considered an asset.
• Knowledge of English.
