Job summary

Starfish Storage Corporation is seeking an experienced system administrator to join our team. You will work with clients across the U.S. and internationally, supporting our data-management platform and ensuring reliability, performance, and security.

The role emphasizes scripting, problem solving, and collaboration in a fast-paced environment. Remote work is supported with on-site opportunities in the USA; strong Linux, networking, and storage expertise are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Handle enterprise IT operations for clients in the US and globally.
• Automate repetitive tasks and analyze logs to identify bottlenecks.
• Troubleshoot permissions issues (LDAP, PAM, Active Directory) and security concerns.
• Support web services such as Nginx, Apache, and CGI.

Job description

Location:

Remote, onshore in the USA

Salary:

$125k to $185k per year depending on experience and skills

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Linux sysadmin experience in medium to large IT environments
• Strong fluency with Linux tools, debugging, and performance analysis
• Strong familiarity with Linux packaging tools and usage such as Yum, Apt, dpkg, Rpm
• Should be comfortable using Python, BASH, or other high-level languages to automate repetitive tasks, analyze logs, and identify performance bottlenecks
• Familiarity with SQL and Databases. SQL scripting (Postgres direct experience a plus)
• Hands on CLI experience administering large scale NAS storage
• Hands-on experience with NFS and SMB protocol mounting and troubleshooting
• Deep expertise on the linux command line and tools to diagnose issues and optimize performance
• Familiarity with, and experience troubleshooting permissions issues such as LDAP, active directory, and PAM
• Strong debugging and system diagnostics for performance analysis and problem determination
• Experience working with Web services such as HTML, Nginx, CGI, and Apache
• Competent network and network troubleshooting skills
• Windows administration experience a plus
• Experience with parallel file systems (Lustre, GPFS, BGFS, etc) is a plus
• Experience with data protection, migration, or archiving software (i.e., NetApp, Veritas, Rubrik, Cohesity, Komprise, Commvault) is a plus.
• Flexibility

• Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
• Independent worker with a strategic mindset and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
• University degree required; STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) background preferred. An advanced degree is a plus.
