Nabu Casa is seeking a Senior Embedded Linux OS Engineer to own embedded Linux enablement for our hardware team. This role focuses on Buildroot-based platform development, BSPs, bootloader configuration, and long-term maintainability across Home Assistant OS hardware.

You will collaborate with hardware and open-source contributors, drive platform reliability, support new boards, and upstream patches to related projects. This is a full-time, remote position reporting to the Engineering Manager.

Formación

• Strong embedded Linux experience, including Buildroot, Yocto, or similar embedded OS environments.
• Deep understanding of Linux OS, services, hardware bring-up, and platform reliability.
• Experience with bootloaders, partition layouts, OTA updates, and lifecycle management.
• Reads hardware schematics/datasheets and works across hardware/software boundaries.
• Experience with cross-compilation toolchains and low-level debugging tools (serial, GDB, strace, JTAG).
• Ability to read/write C/C++ for driver-related work and strong Python for automation.
• Knowledge of security hardening for embedded OS.
• Experience with Home Assistant OS or similar embedded Linux platforms is a plus.

Responsabilidades

• Maintain and improve Home Assistant OS support for Nabu Casa hardware platforms.
• Collaborate with Home Assistant OS contributors and Open Home Foundation developers to improve platform support.
• Support board bring-up activities for new hardware products (Buildroot config, BSPs, bootloader, partitions).
• Optimize OS performance, hardware utilization, stability, and reliability across devices.
• Maintain Buildroot-based build infrastructure for reproducible builds.
• Investigate and resolve platform-level issues (boot regressions, drivers, updates, kernel panics).
• Work with hardware teams during development and validation of new boards to ensure OS support and compatibility.
• Upstream patches to Linux, U-Boot, Buildroot, or related projects.
• Engage with silicon vendors and open-source maintainers to improve platform support.
• Contribute to OS security hardening and platform reliability improvements.
• Help maintain CI pipelines for OS builds and validation.
• Document architecture, board status, debugging procedures, and key decisions.
