AECOM in Madrid seeks a Principal Engineer with bridges/structures design experience to join our Europe Enterprise Capabilities team. You will lead mid-size projects, coordinate across EC offices (Spain, Poland, India), and contribute to iconic transportation infrastructure for public and private clients.

The role involves hands‑on design, project execution planning, and mentoring staff, with responsibility for quality control and budget adherence.

Formación

• Proven track record of working on bridges and/or structures designs and collaborating with international and multi-cultural teams.
• Master degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University.
• Professional fluency in English (oral and written); fluency in Spanish is a plus.
• Experience with international regulations and standards (AASTHO; AREMA; Aus-Codes; BS, etc.).
• Proficiency in engineering calculation software for bridge and structures (Midas Civil preferred; others such as CSI Bridge considered).
• Proven commitment with Quality Control Policy and Quality Management System.
• Team management experience.
• Experience working in North America and/or Australia will be favored.

Responsabilidades

• Makes day-to-day decisions for a technical team, coordinating resources from different EC offices (Spain, Poland, India…).
• Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts and conducts medium complex value engineering evaluations, determining alternative designs, materials, construction techniques.
• Categorizes packages of work to be done by EC, elaborates project execution plans and defines the delivery strategy with internal clients.
• Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others and signs off on work.
• Accountable for the results of the team and adherence to budget for a specific package of work.
• Delivers effective communication with internal clients and team members to clarify expectations and requirements.
• Trains, mentors and evaluates less experienced staff (within Europe GDC or other GDC).

Job Description

We are currently looking to hire a Principal Engineer with experience in bridges and/or structures design , to join our expanding team in Enterprise Capabilities, Europe (Madrid).

Our Bridges and Structures team has a strong track record delivering structural bridge engineering designs in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Latin America and the Middle East. With us, you will be able to contribute and participate in iconic transportation infrastructure projects within a diverse and multicultural environment.

You will be involved in all phases of project development, from conceptual and feasibility studies to preliminary designs and detailed design engineering, covering a wide variety of bridge and structural projects. You will be part of large multidisciplinary teams serving both public and private clients, including major large-scale Design and Build projects.

Here is what you will do:

• Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others. Approves and signs off on work.
• Accountable for the results of the team and adherence to agreed budget for a specific package of work.
• Delivers effective communication inclusive of internal clients and team members to clarify expectations and requirements.
• Trains, mentors and evaluates less experienced staff (within the Europe GDC or other GDC).

Qualifications

Here’s what we’re looking for:

• Proven track record of working on bridges and/or structures designs and collaborating with international and multi-cultural teams (+8 years).
• Master degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University.
• Professional fluency in English (oral and written) will be essential, fluency in Spanish language will be a plus.
• Experience with international regulations and standards (i.e AASTHO; AREMA, Aus-Codes; BS, etc.).
• Proficiency in engineering calculation software for bridge and structures (preferable Midas Civil, but others as CSi Bridge are well considered).
• Proven commitment with Quality Control Policy and Quality Management System.
• Team management experience.
• Experience working in the North America region / Australia will be considered favorably.
