Job summary

Instituto de Tecnología Química (ITQ CSIC-UPV) invites applications for an FPU pre-doctoral contract to undertake a doctoral thesis focused on designing advanced catalysts for biomass valorisation into renewable products.

The doctoral work will address synthesis and characterisation of multifunctional catalysts for biomass derivatives conversion, within the BioSMART and BIOREFINT projects, in a multidisciplinary setting at ITQ.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science with Master’s degree completed or nearing completion.
• Excellent academic record, preferably for a competitive FPU call.
• Interest in heterogeneous catalysis and synthesis/characterisation of solid materials.
• Motivation to conduct research in an international and multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

• Synthesis and characterisation of new nanostructured and multifunctional catalytic materials.
• Evaluation of catalysts in processes for conversion of biomass derivatives to renewable fuels and chemicals.
• Application of advanced techniques for analysis of reaction mixtures and product identification.
• Use of advanced analytical techniques to establish structure–reactivity relationships for catalysts.
