Talan Group is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer for a short-term freelance project to build and accelerate a cloud-based data platform on Microsoft Azure. This hands-on role focuses on implementing, automating, and deploying Azure infrastructure and data platforms in production environments, not architectural work.

You will configure Azure cloud infrastructure, design CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps, deploy Azure Databricks, and apply IaC to automate delivery.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join a short-term project focused on building and accelerating a cloud-based data platform on Microsoft Azure.

This is a hands-on delivery role. We are not looking for architects or strategy consultants, but for an engineer with proven experience implementing, automating, and deploying Azure infrastructure and data platforms in production environments.

Responsibilities

• Build and configure Azure cloud infrastructure to support the data platform.
• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
• Deploy and configure the Azure Databricks platform, ensuring it is production-ready.
• Automate infrastructure deployment and platform management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to accelerate platform delivery.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure and deployment issues and optimize platform reliability.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Platform Engineer, Cloud Engineer, or similar hands-on infrastructure role.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Expertise in Terraform and/or ARM Templates.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of Azure DevOps.
• Hands-on experience deploying and configuring Azure Databricks.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and cloud automation.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced delivery environment.

Qualifications

Nice to Have

• Experience with data engineering platforms or modern data ecosystems.
• Knowledge of cloud security and governance best practices.
• Experience working in Agile delivery teams.
