Biofisica is seeking a PhD student to work on artificial mitochondria for health at the Complutense University in Madrid. This innovative role will focus on drug delivery and the production of ATP in synthetic biology contexts.

Artificial Mitochondria for Health

The group of Dr. Iván López‑Montero at the Department of Physical Chemistry I at the Complutense University in Madrid is looking for strongly motivated candidates for a PhD‑student position.

The position is funded by the ERC (European Research Council) and covers a period of 3 years.

The work will focus on drug delivery in a framework of synthetic biology and will focus on the production of ATP inside artificial model membrane systems and their delivery into human cell cultures carrying mitochondrial dysfunctions.

What is expected?

• Applicants should be ready to be accepted on a Spanish PhD thesis program in Experimental Science at the starting date.
• Laboratory experience and skills to work in a collaborative interdisciplinary team are desirable.
• Candidates from any scientific discipline that are interested in interdisciplinary research questions at the interface between physics, chemisty and biology.
