The CIEMAT Neutrino Group at the Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT) in Madrid (Spain) is seeking candidates for a 3-year PhD student Position in Experimental Neutrino Physics to work on the new LiquidO technology in the scope of the EIC-Pathfinder project AntiMatter-OTech .
The AntiMatter-OTech innovation project aims to construct and operate a 10-tonne neutrino detector for nuclear reactor applications using an opaque scintillator, an innovative technology that exploits light propagation in the opaque medium to improve the identification and reconstruction of particle interactions. The project also includes a fundamental science programme. The CIEMAT Neutrino Group contributes to the design, construction and scientific exploitation of the detector, offering the opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge experiment from detector development to data analysis.
The CIEMAT Neutrino Group has a long experience in Reactor Neutrino Experiments and is also participating in DUNE and SBND experiments at Fermilab, as well as, in the ProtoDUNE program at CERN Neutrino Platform.
The 3-year PhD contract (PREFIN-26-I01) has been published at the CIEMAT Job Openings web site. The deadline for submitting applications is 18 November of 2026.
The candidate must have a Master’s Degree in Physics or similar at the time of the application, a good English knowledge and strong interest in the neutrino physics field. Experience in C++ and Python programming will be also valuable.
