Job summary

BCBL BASQUE CENTER ON COGNITION, BRAIN AND LANGUAGE seeks a PhD student to join the Speech & Bilingualism group and carry out doctoral research within the FLLAPP project. The candidate will develop experimental designs, collect data from adult/child language learners, and analyze behavioral, acoustic, and EEG/ERP data.

Qualifications

• Academic background in cognitive neuroscience, linguistics, psychology, or related field.
• Strong interest in phonetics, EEG/cognitive neuroscience and foreign-language learning.
• Experience with experimental research and quantitative data analysis.
• Experience programming/adapting behavioural experiments and using research software (R, Python, MATLAB, PsychoPy).
• Experience with acoustic-phonetic analysis (Praat) and EEG/ERP methods.
• Ability to work independently and in teams; strong organisational skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement research questions and experimental designs within FLLAPP work packages.
• Design and conduct studies with adult and/or child foreign-language learners.
• Collect and analyse behavioural, acoustic-phonetic, listener-rating, and/or EEG/ERP data.
• Maintain transparent workflows for data management, analysis, and open science outputs.
• Prepare research articles with the PI and present findings at conferences and events.
• Contribute to the collaborative research life of the Speech and Bilingualism group and the BCBL.
