A Spanish research institute is seeking a Postdoctoral researcher to focus on astrophysical studies, particularly in chemical abundances and data analysis of the Gaia mission. The role involves investigating the galactic distribution of stars and analyzing neutron-capture elements. Candidates with a PhD in Astrophysics and expertise in stellar spectroscopy are encouraged to apply.

Formación

• Experience in stellar spectroscopy of neutron-capture elements is preferred.
• Familiarity with data from the Gaia mission is beneficial.

Responsabilidades

• Research chemical abundances of low- and intermediate-mass stars.
• Analyze data from the Gaia mission: astrometry, photometry, and RVS spectroscopy.
• Study galactic distribution of stars enriched in neutron-capture elements.

One Postdoctoral Contract GAIA-SIREN 2025 (PS-2025-070)

Research topics at the IAC include most areas of astrophysics: Solar Physics (FS), Exoplanetary System and Solar System (SEYSS), Stellar and Interstellar Physics (FEEI), The Milky Way and The Local Group (MWLG), Formation and Evolution of Galaxies (FYEG), and Cosmology and Astroparticles (CYA-CTA). All of these are supported by an ambitious instrumentation programme. Tasks:The successful candidate will pursue research in the following fields:

• Chemical abundances of low- and intermediate-mass stars.
• Analysis of data from the Gaia mission: astrometry, photometry and RVS spectroscopy.
• Neutron-capture elements (produced by the s-, i- and r-processes) and their different astrophysical origins.
• Galactic distribution of stars enriched in these elements, from the most primitive and most metal-poor stars in the halo to the more metal-rich bulge and disk stars.

Particular attention will be given to applicants with experience in the field of stellar spectroscopy of neutron-capture elements with different spectral resolutions.
