Job summary

FMIT Group is seeking a Mid Backend Software Engineer to design, build, and optimize backend systems in Málaga. You will shape scalable architectures, maintain code quality, and guide junior engineers as a technical reference within the team.

You will work across development, staging, and production environments, collaborating to improve APIs and databases while delivering robust backend services in a flexible hybrid setup.

Qualifications

• Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript/Python with real business logic delivery.
• Hands-on with Express, FastAPI, or Fastify and scalable service design.
• Strong PostgreSQL skills including schema design and query tuning.
• Experience with Kafka or similar messaging for asynchronous communication.
• Comfortable across dev, staging, and production environments.
• Able to write clean, testable code and review others' code.

The Role

As a Mid Backend Software Engineer, you'll independently design, build, and optimize backend systems, not just implement tickets. You'll help shape scalable architecture, keep code quality high, and act as a technical reference point for junior engineers on the team. This is a role for someone who's past needing guardrails and ready to help set them for others.

What You'll Do

• Independently design, develop, and optimize backend solutions end to end.
• Design scalable backend systems with maintainability and performance in mind.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of CI/CD pipelines.
• Develop unit tests and automate workflows to keep code quality high.
• Act as a technical reference for junior engineers --- guidance, not hand-holding.
• Document backend systems so the whole team can build on them, not just you.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to improve APIs and database systems.

What We're Looking For (Must-Have)

• Professional experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and Python, implementing real business logic autonomously.
• Solid hands-on experience with Express, FastAPI, or Fastify, and designing scalable backend services.
• Strong PostgreSQL skills, schema design, query optimization, data integrity.
• Experience with Kafka or similar for asynchronous, service-to-service communication.
• Comfortable working across dev, staging, and production environments.
• You write clean, testable code, and you're just as comfortable reviewing someone else's.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
• Exposure to cloud environments and deployment support.
• A track record of proposing system or process improvements, not just executing them.
