Mainframe COBOL Programmer

What You Will Do

• Develop, test, and maintain batch and online applications on IBM z / OS or similar mainframe platforms.
• Write, optimize, and debug COBOL, PL / I, or Assembler programs.
• Create and maintain JCL scripts for batch processing.
• Perform system analysis, troubleshoot issues, and provide production support.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Analyze performance issues and recommend improvements.
• Maintain documentation for code, processes, and system configurations.
• Support data migration, integration, and modernization initiatives.

What We Expect

• Strong proficiency with COBOL (COBOL / 370, Enterprise COBOL).
• Solid experience with JCL (Job Control Language).
• Familiarity with CICS for online transaction processing.
• Experience working with VSAM files and datasets.
• Understanding of DB2 or IMS databases, including SQL for DB2.
• Knowledge of TSO / ISPF development environment.
• Proficiency with mainframe debugging and testing tools (e.g., Abend-Aid, Expeditor, File-Aid).
• Understanding of mainframe batch scheduling tools (e.g., CA-7, Control-M).
• Knowledge of system utilities (IDCAMS, SORT, SMP / E, etc.).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work in structured SDLC and change management environments.
• High English level. English is the working language (spoken and written).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with mainframe modernization or migration projects.
• Familiarity with REXX scripting.
• Exposure to MQ Series, SOAP / REST integration, or APIs connecting mainframe services.
• Experience in Agile or hybrid project environments.
• Understanding of security and compliance practices in large enterprise environments.
