Expedia Group in Madrid is seeking a Machine Learning Scientist II to build end-to-end ML solutions for personalized recommendations, learning-to-rank, and relevance optimization within the B2B ML Science team. You will design models that scale for high-throughput, low-latency environments and work across partner segments.

The role emphasizes experimentation, A/B testing, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and clear communication of results to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. preferred or Master’s in computer science, ML, mathematics or statistics.
• 2 years of industry ML experience desirable but not required.
• Proficiency in Python with PySpark and ML libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras).
• Familiarity with Hadoop, Spark and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP).
• Solid understanding of ML algorithms; knowledge of statistics.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

We are looking for an individual who has a solid foundation in machine learning and engineering, is passionate about driving meaningful impact while being mindful of the broader business context in which their work sits, is comfortable with ambiguity, and enjoys the challenge of tackling open-ended problems.In this role, you will:Develop and implement ML models for recommendations & relevance at scale that can handle high-throughput, low-latency personalized recommendations across diverse partner segments within Expedia Group’s B2B division.Contribute to building and enhancing end-to-end ML solutions, from data preprocessing to production deployment.Design and run A/B tests and experiments to continuously improve algorithm performance.Stay current with the latest ML techniques and contribute to the team’s technical capabilities.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.Communicate methodologies and results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences and work across the tech stack to deploy models.Experience and qualifications:Ph.D. (preferred) or master’s degree in computer science, Machine Learning, Mathematics/Statistics or another related field of science.2 years of industry experience in applying ML to real-world problems desirable but not required.Proficiency in Python, with experience using PySpark and common machine learning libraries and frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras etc.).Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP)Solid understanding of common machine learning algorithmsKnowledge of statistics and probability theoryExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to learn new concepts quicklyStrong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholdersEnthusiasm for tackling challenging problems and contributing to innovative solutionsThe total cash range for this position in Madrid is €43,000.00 to €60,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to €69,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.
