Position Title: Lead Field Service Technician – HVAC

Department: Field Services / Mission Critical Operations

Location: Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao) + Remote

Travel Requirement: ~75% across assigned sites

Languages Required: Spanish & English (professional proficiency) - Non-negotiable

Position Overview

The Lead Field Service Technician will support mission‑critical data center operations across multiple sites, ensuring the reliability and optimal performance of HVAC, cooling, and environmental control systems. This role requires strong technical expertise in data center cooling infrastructure, hands‑on troubleshooting ability, and the capacity to lead on‑site workstreams including maintenance, commissioning, and system upgrades.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead field service activities across three data center locations, providing expert‑level HVAC support.
  • Perform commissioning, maintenance, and optimization of cooling systems including chillers, CRAC / CRAH units, EDUs, and associated controls.
  • Conduct firmware updates, equipment calibrations, air‑block resolution, and system performance checks.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and controls‑related issues within mission‑critical environments.
  • Review and interpret single‑line drawings, engineering documentation, and baseline circuit analysis.
  • Provide root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment faults and operational deviations.
  • Collaborate with controls engineers to adjust programming parameters and improve system stability.
  • Maintain detailed service reports, documentation, and compliance records.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for junior technicians and local contractors.
  • Support remote monitoring and remote troubleshooting when not on‑site.
  • Ensure full adherence to safety, operational, and regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • ~3–5 years of experience in mission‑critical environments (data centers, industrial facilities, or similar).
  • Strong HVAC technical background with hands‑on experience in:
    • Chillers (maintenance, start‑up, commissioning)
    • Advanced cooling systems (CRAC / CRAH, EDUs, fluid systems)
    • Controls integration and field programming
    • Firmware updates and system optimization
    • Troubleshooting mechanical & electrical components
    • Baseline circuit analysis and interpretation of single‑line drawings
  • Proven ability to diagnose complex issues independently and under high‑pressure operational conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (approximately 75% across Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao).
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, including during remote support tasks.
Preferred Attributes
  • Experience leading small field teams or coordinating contractor activities.
  • Certifications in HVAC, mechanical systems, or data center operations (e.g., F‑Gas, EPA, BMS / controls training).
  • Familiarity with data center operational frameworks (Uptime, ASHRAE, ITIL).
  • Strong documentation, reporting, and customer‑facing communication skills.
