The Agile Monkeys is seeking a senior engineering lead to own a high-stakes domain end-to-end. You will run a pod, act as the reference for your domain, and collaborate with stakeholders across teams and clients.

Expect to set and defend standards in Java/OOP, Domain-Driven Design, REST APIs, and Git while mentoring engineers, managing priorities, and delivering reliable architectural decisions in a fully remote setup with international clients.

We're a boutique AI firm building production AI systems for regulated industries — insurance, banking, healthcare, legal — for clients across the US, Latam, Europe and the GCC. We also build and scale our own AI-native products through our Venture Builder. AI isn't a layer we add on top; it's how we work and what we ship.

The role

You'd take the lead on one of our biggest client engagements: a large, regulated-industry enterprise where the stakes — and the standards — are high. You wouldn't just be writing code; you'd be running a pod that owns an entire domain, end to end.

That makes you the reference point when questions land on your domain, and the person other teams come to when their work touches yours — directly, or on its way to someone else's API.

What the work actually looks like:

• You keep leadership in the loop — on top of everything your team is doing, and able to distill it for the people steering the project.
• You prioritize, delegate, give direct feedback, and set the bar on best practices for your team.
• You triage and sequence constant, simultaneous requests without losing your own to-do list.
• You define the engineering standards the team builds against — Java/OOP, Domain-Driven Design, REST APIs, Git — and you know why those practices exist, not just that they do.
• You question tickets that don't make sense before you build them, and you expect your team to do the same.
• You look for ways to make things better beyond your own pod, not just inside it.

Who this is for

If you want a lead role where someone else has already made the calls and you just execute — this isn't it. This is for someone who wants to own a domain, not just staff it.

You'll fit if:

• You've led engineering teams before, and you know the difference between managing tasks and leading people.
• You're comfortable being the technical authority — the one who sets the standard, not the one who asks what it is.
• You can talk to leadership in their language and to your team in theirs, in fluent English.
• You have solid, real experience in Java/OOP, Domain-Driven Design, REST APIs, and Git.
• Ambiguity and competing priorities don't throw you off — you organize around them.
• You'd rather ask if a ticket makes sense than quietly build the wrong thing.

Good to have, not required

• Experience working with large, regulated-industry clients (banking, insurance, healthcare).
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (Copilot, Claude Code, or similar) as part of your day-to-day.
• Prior experience mentoring or growing engineers on your team.
