A leading health research institute in Barcelona is seeking a full-time LAB TECHNICIAN to manage activities related to a funding project focused on bacterial outbreaks. The role requires significant laboratory experience in microbiology and proficiency in Catalan, English, and Spanish. The position entails organizing and collecting project materials, analyzing bacterial isolates, and supporting experimental tasks at the Centre Esther Koplowitz. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to vital health research, with a contract duration of one month starting January 2026.

Formación

The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ISGlobal is seeking a full-time LAB TECHNICIAN for the project who is interested in taking over and managing activities of the project “Fourier-Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy for real-time detection of bacterial outbreaks and the rapid identification of pathogenic serotypes, relapsing infections and antibiotic resistance (FINDOOR)” funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. The overall project goal is to continue developing the main research lines of the group: molecular basis of the antibacterial resistance, pathogenesis and design of new tools for diagnostic and treatment of bacterial diseases. The tasks will be developed in the microbiology department and research laboratory at Centre Esther Koplowitz (CEK), funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. ‘This contract is part of the action CNS2023-144121, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/ 501100011033 and by the European Union “NextGenerationEU”/PRTR’.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The key responsibility of the candidate will be to support and develop the experimental tasks within the project.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Organization and collection of samples and material used for the project.

  • Generate a local repository of FTIR spectra from bacterial isolates of ESKAPE pathogens and analyze the ability of FTIR spectroscopy to correctly identify the clonal relatedness of isolates from different bacterial species.

  • Characterize the bacterial strains included in the project in terms of antibiotic resistance. The tasks will be developed in the Microbiology Department at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and at the research laboratory of Dr. Ignasi Roca’s group at Centre Esther Koplowitz (CEK).

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous laboratory experience in the microbiology field.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process.
