As our Head of Iberia, you will be responsible for leading Northland’s operations, strategy, and growth in Spain. This includes maximizing our current portfolio of 33 assets, comprising Onshore Wind (435 MW), Photovoltaic Solar (66 MW), and Concentrated Solar (50 MW), as well as driving regional expansion and new opportunities. You will play a key leadership role in representing Northland across local stakeholders, advancing the Spanish business agenda, and inspiring our teams on the ground.

This role will be based in our Madrid office (4 days per week), with travel as required.

Key responsibilities
Strategic & Commercial Leadership
  • Translate global and regional growth targets into a local action plan, ensuring delivery against objectives.
  • Drive organic origination by securing new land and partnerships, while pursuing strategic M&A to accelerate growth.
  • Oversee early‑stage development (permitting, local interconnection, licensing, etc.) in collaboration with PD&D.
  • Lead commercial execution, including identifying, structuring, and negotiating PPA and commercial & industrial offtake agreements.
  • Work with the Finance and Investment Management teams to model project returns and prepare materials for the Investment Committee.
Operational Excellence
  • Optimize OPEX of existing assets and explore brownfield opportunities within the current portfolio, including BESS, repowering, and thermal storage.
  • Monitor the performance of operating assets and apply global standards, policies, and procedures across the portfolio.
  • Oversee the budget and control costs to ensure achievement of financial goals.
Stakeholder & External Relations
  • Serve as Northland’s spokesperson in Spain, representing the company with regulators, policymakers, local authorities, industry bodies, partners, and media.
  • Manage key stakeholders and joint venture or community partners, serving as the main interface for regional engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the political, regulatory, and business landscape to advance Northland’s interests.
Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Spanish laws and regulations, managing HSE, risk, and governance frameworks effectively.
  • Identify and evaluate potential risks and take appropriate measures to mitigate them.
Leadership & Culture
  • Serve as a visible and unifying leader for all Northland teams in Madrid.
  • Champion accountability, collaboration, and cross‑functional alignment across local and regional teams.

Qualifications and Experience
  • In‑depth knowledge of Spanish development best practices, including permitting, consents, grid, and community engagement.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with proven experience engaging regulatory bodies, environmental agencies, local communities, and investors.
  • Established network among politicians, policymakers, and regulators in Spain.
  • Advanced operational understanding of the European, and particularly Spanish, energy market.
  • Experience structuring and negotiating PPA and commercial offtake agreements.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
