Job summary

Santander is seeking a Gen AI Engineer to design, integrate, and optimize agentic AI systems with a focus on reliability and knowledge grounding. The role emphasizes Python development, LLM integration, and secure production-grade workflows.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in backend development and 2+ years in AI engineering, with strong knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, and observability. This is a Madrid-based, hybrid position offering growth and learning opportunities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in backend development.
• 2+ years of experience in AI engineering.
• Experience building and operating production-grade distributed systems, APIs, or cloud applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement agentic & modular AI architectures.

Join the Agentic Solutions team within CDAIO / AI TECH as a Generative AI Engineer specializing in Python, Madrid-based .

In this role, you will design, integrate, and optimize agentic systems, with a focus on reliable operation, relevant knowledge retrieval, and security.

Key responsabilities:

• Agentic architecture: Design reasoning and planning loops, short- and long-term memory, and context management for individual agents and collaborative multi-agent systems.
• Orchestration and integration: Integrate large language models (LLMs) with APIs, microservices, and vector databases, and orchestrate agentic systems using MCP and A2A.
• Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): Build and optimize advanced RAG pipelines that ground agent responses in relevant knowledge.
• Evaluation and observability: Define metrics to evaluate agent behavior and implement tracing, debugging, and production monitoring.
• Security and guardrails: Implement security filters, access controls, data leakage prevention, and prompt injection mitigation.
• Agent tooling: Build MCP-based tools that extend the capabilities of agentic systems.

Professional Experience

• 5+ years of experience in backend development. (Required)
• 2+ years of experience in AI engineering .(Required)
• Experience building and operating production-grade distributed systems, APIs, or cloud applications. (Required)
• Hands‑on experience with LLM applications. (Required)
• Experience optimizing production applications. (Preferred)

Education

• BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. (Required)

Languages

• Spanish proficiency. (Required)
• High level of English . (Preferred)

Hard Skills

• Strong knowledge of software architecture, engineering best practices, and design patterns. (Required)
• Strong knowledge of APIs, microservices, distributed systems, security, testing, CI/CD, and observability . (Required)
• Strong Python programming skills.(Required)
• Knowledge of RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector search, reranking, response grounding, and evaluation (Preferred)
• Experience with React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. (Preferred)
• Knowledge of agent integration and interaction protocols, including MCP, A2A, AG-UI, and A2UI. (Preferred)

Soft Skills

• Strong problem‑solving skills, a deep sense of ownership, and a proactive attitude.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions and collaborate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
